Keyboard Shortcuts - becoming skilled at using keyboard shortcuts can help you to quickly accomplish many of the tasks that you perform frequently in Word.

  • Create a list of keyboard shortcuts by scrolling over each Word icon on the ribbon in the Home Tab.
  • If a keyboard shotcut is available for a command, then it is listed in the ScreenTip for that command.
  • Open a Word document and create a two-column table
    • Write the command in the first column and the keyboard shortcut in the second column.
    • EXAMPLE: Save = [Ctrl][S]
  • Save and email as "Word Keyboard Shortcuts"

Request for Informational Interview

Using the template below, think of a person whose job you would like to have, and write a letter to that person requesting an informational interview. Your letter should state your interest in learning about the educational and professional background required to perform the job and the career opportunities in the field. It’s important to write your letter in proper business letter format. Add any additional information to the letter that you might need.
  • When you have completed the letter, save with the filename: Request Interview Letter.
  • Preview the letter in Print Preview.
  • Email the letter to the teacher (Subject: Request Interview Letter)

EXTRA Independent Challenge 1

You are a sports reporter for a newspaper. Your editor has requested that you cut down an article you have written so that it fits in the newspaper.

  1. Start Word.
  2. Open the file WD BX-1.docx from the drive and folder where you store your Data Files, and then save it as Cougars.
  3. Read the article to get a feel for its contents.
  4. Delete the seventh, eighth, and ninth paragraphs. The seventh paragraph begins “To prepare for the season…”
  5. Switch the order of the fifth and sixth paragraphs. The fifth paragraph begins “Woods had nothing holding her back….”
  6. Move the second paragraph, which begins “Last week we got beat…,” to become the last paragraph in the article.
  7. Replace all instances of Springfield with Pleasanton.
  8. At the beginning of the first paragraph, type CLEVELAND--.
  9. At the top of the document, type the headline Cougars eye last playoff spot, press [Enter] twice, type your name, and then press [Enter] twice.
  10. Correct all the spelling and grammar errors in the article.
  11. Adjust the spacing between paragraphs if necessary.
  12. Save your changes to the article, email a copy to the teacher, close the document, and then exit Word.
